"The Milky Way appears over a bizarre geological formation (called Panaca formation) in Cathedral Gorge State Park, Nevada. This place was covered by a lake nearly a million years ago. The richly colored canyons are remnants of this ancient lakebed. Over centuries the lake began to gradually drain. Erosion on the exposed parts of sediment and gravel carved rivulets, splitting tiny cracks and fissures into larger and larger gullies and canyons."

Mushroom-Hunting Photos Recall Gold Rush-Era Living

"Over 5,000 mushrooms grow naturally in North America, but only a small percentage are foraged for the food industry. Edible and sought-after varietals grow in abundance throughout Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. In the forests of Central Oregon where Johnson photographed, hunters harvest morels and bolete mushrooms in the spring, and matsutakes and chanterelles in the summer. It is a lucrative line of work for some."

Icelandic horses gathered on top of this hill within their paddock beneath this stunning cloud formation. The combination seemed positively heavenly. This photo was taken at the breeding farm in northern Iceland called Ibisholl.
